Job Title:  Analyst (Aligned Solar Partners)

Purpose

Aligned Climate Capital LLC (Aligned) is an asset manager that believes the global response to climate change is creating a $50 trillion market opportunity. Founded in 2019, Aligned is a dynamic and mission-driven firm that invests exclusively in the companies and real assets that are decarbonizing the global economy. It is seeking experienced candidates who are self-motivated, innovative, and committed to using financial tools to address climate change.

The Analyst will play a key role in executing the Aligned Solar Partners (ASP) strategy. ASP is one of Aligned’s core investment strategies and it involves aquiring distributed solar projects in the United States using tax-efficient equity.

Since 2018, Aligned has executed four investment partnerships in the ASP series, which collectively own 21 solar projects representing approximately 35 MWdc of installed capacity. Additional ASP acquisitions are planned for 2022 and 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of distributed solar. Specifically, the Analyst will perform financial analysis and investment research to support solar project acquisitions and portfolio management. The position includes opportunities for growth and advancement.

The Analyst will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform due diligence, financial modeling, and other analysis of potential ASP solar project acquisitions;

  • Develop presentations, investment memos, and other materials;

  • Research, track, and report relevant market, industry, and regulatory developments;

  • Support the ASP team on origination, project acquisitions, construction management, and debt placement; and

  • Support the ASP team on portfolio and asset management functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Public Policy, Sustainability, or a related field.

  • One to Three years of professional experience in clean energy development, investment banking, management consulting, or a relevant field. In certain cases, Aligned will consider internships as evidence of experience.

  • Excellent writing, presentation, and research skills.

  • Proven analytical and financial modeling skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong commitment to addressing the threat of climate change.

The Portfolio Manager will have key responsibilities in executing the Aligned Solar Partners (ASP) strategy. ASP is one of Aligned’s core investment strategies and it involves aquiring distributed solar projects in the United States using tax-efficient equity.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

This position will be responsible for managing project development, construction, and asset management for ASP. In addition, the Portfolio Manager will work with the broader ASP team to support project origination and structured finance. It includes opportunities for growth and advancement.

The Portfolio Manager will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Support diligence of development and construction issues during project origination and acquisition;

  • Monitor project development and construction in coordination with ASP’s development and EPC partners;

  • Manage the operations and maintenance of the ASP portfolio in coordination with ASP’s network of O&M contractors;

  • Lead asset management of the ASP portfolio including financial and operational performance;

  • Maintain strong working relationships with key ASP counterparties including offtakers, lessors, electric utilities, and regulatory agencies.

  • Support debt underwriting and reporting related to project development, construction, and operation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Public Policy, Sustainability, or a related field.

  • Three to Five years of experience in solar project development, construction management, asset management, or a related field.

  • Experience with solar construction management, including engagement with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), landowners, and other counterparties and stakeholders.

  • Experience with solar portfolio management, including engagement with Operations and Maintenance (O&M) providers, marketing Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), tracking accounts payable, financial reporting and audit, and oversight of portfolio performance.

  • Experience with solar project acquisitions, including project-level diligence, review of primary contract forms (i.e. MIPAs, site leases, EPC, O&M, and other service contracts), and coordination of multiple counter-parties.

  • Proven ability to present information for expert and non-expert audiences.

  • Lead project origination and acquisition activities;

  • Execute the project finance requirements for the portfolio, including the placement of construction debt and permanent debt;

  • Manage the ongoing financial and operational performance of the ASP portfolio;

  • Collaborate with Aligned’s management team to shape the ASP strategy;

  • Participate in fundraising activities for future ASP partnerships; and

  • Represent Aligned at industry conferences and other public events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business, Finance, Public Policy, or a related field;

  • At least five years of experience in solar project finance, private equity, investment banking, or a relevant clean energy/climate-related field;

  • Proven understanding of U.S. solar development and markets;

  • Understanding of solar project finance structures, solar project development, and financial statements.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;

  • Proven ability to manage multi-person teams;

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and fluency in written and verbal communications; and

  • Strong commitment to addressing the threat of climate change.

This position will be responsible for leading fundraising and investor relations for Aligned’s two primary investment strategies: Venture Capital and Aligned Solar Partners. The Director will also work closely with Aligned’s management team on corporate strategy and business development.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is an exciting opportunity to lead investor relations for a rapidly growing asset manager focused exclusively on climate solutions. Specifically, this position will engage Aligned’s key investor audiences, including family offices, foundations, and endowments, on strategies to achieve both financial performance and environmental impact.

The Director will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies for Aligned’s investment products;

  • Manage investor reporting and ongoing investor relations;

  • Develop and execute strategies to broaden Aligned’s investor network and build relationships with key climate change stakeholders (philanthropies, public policy, etc.);

  • Support Aligned’s marketing and communications efforts with a specific focus on investor audiences;

  • Manage contracts with Aligned’s third-party fund administrators;

  • Collaborate with Aligned’s management to develop and execute corporate strategy and business development; and

  • Represent Aligned at industry conferences and other public events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business, Finance, Public Policy, or a related field;

  • At least five years of experience in investor relations, private wealth management, investment consulting, asset management, climate-oriented non-profits, or a relevant field;

  • Proven understanding of private placement offerings and fund formation;

  • Demonstrated fundraising abilities and relationships with qualified private investors;

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and fluency in written and verbal communications;
