Job Title: Development Manager (Aligned Solar Partners)
Location: Los Angeles, CA, New York, NY, or Portland, ME
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Purpose
Aligned Climate Capital LLC (Aligned) is an asset manager that believes the global response to climate change is creating a $50 trillion market opportunity. Founded in 2019, Aligned is a dynamic and mission-driven firm that invests exclusively in the companies and real assets that are decarbonizing the global economy. It is seeking experienced candidates who are self-motivated, innovative, and committed to using financial tools to address climate change.
The Development Manager will have key responsibilities in executing the Aligned Solar Partners (ASP) strategy. ASP is one of Aligned’s core investment strategies and it involves acquiring distributed solar and energy storage projects in the United States using tax-efficient capital.
Duties and Responsibilities
This position will be actively involved in portfolio acquisitions, construction management, and asset management. It includes opportunities for growth and advancement.
The Development Manager will have the following duties and responsibilities:

Perform due diligence for prospective acquisitions on development-related activities (local/state permit, site/environmental licensing, regulatory compliance, and key contracts, etc.);

Coordinate with Aligned’s outside legal counsel during project diligence to ensure that all development issues are being identified and tracked;
-
Collaborate with the ASP team to structure contractual terms to de-risk development issues as part of project acquisitions;
-
Lead risk management efforts related to development issues or permitting conditions during project acquisition;
-
Ensure all development related issues, permitting conditions, or other project specific issues are effectively communicated and fulfilled during the transition to construction and operations;
-
Maintain relationships with key stakeholders (state environmental agencies, utility interconnection teams, developers, etc.) in markets that are core to the ASP strategy;
-
Support the negotiation and execution of term sheets, project acquisitions, debt placement, and other key contracts (MIPA, EPC, O&M, etc.);
-
Support ASP team members during construction and asset management to ensure continuity from project acquisition;
-
Support the preparation and presentation of investment memos to the Investment Committee;
-
Support origination efforts for the ASP strategy;
-
Engage professionally with Aligned’s Advisory Board and external stakeholders;

Closely track and report on relevant market, industry, and regulatory developments; and
-
Represent Aligned at conferences, industry panels, and other external engagements.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Public Policy, Sustainability, or a related field;
-
At least four years of experience in clean energy development, renewable energy M&A, or a relevant clean energy/development-related field;

Deep professional understanding of distributed solar and energy storage project development;
-
Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously;
-
Understanding of distributed energy regulatory frameworks and offtake structures, including net energy billing, community solar, energy storage tariffs, and relevant policy incentives;

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
-
Fluency in written and verbal communications; and
-
Strong commitment to addressing the threat of climate change.
Compensation

This position will be actively involved in portfolio acquisitions, due diligence, and investment execution. It includes opportunities for growth and advancement.
The Associate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

Build and maintain detailed financial models to evaluate investment opportunities and make investment recommendations;

Perform due diligence on prospective project acquisitions;

Support origination efforts for the ASP strategy;
-
Support portfolio management for the ASP investments;
-
Support the negotiation and execution of term sheets, project acquisitions, debt placement, and other key contracts (MIPA, EPC, O&M, etc.);
-
Prepare and present investment memos to the Investment Committee;

Engage professionally with Aligned’s Advisory Board and external stakeholders;

Closely track and report on relevant market, industry, and regulatory developments; and

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Law, Public Policy, Sustainability, or a related field;

At least two years of experience in clean energy development, renewable energy M&A, private equity, finance, investment banking, or a relevant clean energy/climate-related field;

Strong financial modeling skills and experience with project finance structures;
-
Understanding of distributed energy regulatory frameworks and offtake structures, including net energy billing, community solar, energy storage tariffs, and relevant policy incentives;

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;

Fluency in written and verbal communications; and
-
Strong commitment to addressing the threat of climate change.
